The work of installing landscape lighting is almost always done by a professional lighting team. But if you want to try your hands at doing it by yourself, it is very much possible, and here is a guide to help you get started.
Planning out the landscape lighting:
One step that could make the whole process of installing landscape lighting easier is to first plan out the whole process of landscape lighting.
● Choose where you want to place the lights:
l Lights placed in the right place could accentuate the whole appearance of the house.
l Too little lighting would make the house look dull.
l Too much lighting can make it look like a carnival.
l So the first thing you need to do is plan out the places where you want to place the lighting and make sure that it isn’t too much or too little.
● Choose the type of lighting:
After you have chosen the place, you need to choose the type of lighting that needs to be placed there.
l Pathway lighting: This is a small downward lighting placed every few feet to illuminate a pathway.
l Up lighting: The lighting shines upwards and is used to accentuate key features of the house.
l Moon lighting: It is usually fixed on a tree or a high ground and the light shines downward to accentuate the place that it shines upon.
l In ground lighting: This type of lighting is placed inside the ground. It is usually placed in roadways or the parking space to see the ground.
l Architectural specific fixture: This type of lighting is made specifically to suit any specific object or monument to highlight its features better.
Lighting temperature:
Different temperatures of light give different looks to the surrounding.
Fixture material:
The lights can be manufactured either in aluminium or brass. Aluminium is cheaper but erodes faster and there isn’t much option on selecting the finish. The brass fixture lasts longer but is more expensive. It also gives options of choosing from a copper, bronze or black finish. Once you’ve decided all these, the process of installing landscape lighting would be so much easier.
